Embodied: A Transformational Yoga Retreat

Tulum, Mexico | April 11-17, 2019

Human beings are driven by a profound need for love and connection, though our daily lives, relationships, community and world reflect that we may not be as skilled at fulfilling these needs as our hearts desire.

So then, what is love?

What does it mean to be truly connected? Can we use the embodied and experiential tools of yoga to connect more skillfully? Can yoga support us to become agents of loving connection and a force of change in our world?

Facilitating yoga through our lens as two women of color, this retreat will center black and brown people’s experiences of love and connection by curating content with people of color and our unique relationships to race-based trauma in mind. Our aim is to support the fostering of safe spaces to explore the relationship to love and the unique social and emotional obstacles that exist for us that make loving connection to ourselves and others challenging.

Set amidst the exquisite, natural beauty of Tulum, Mexico and inspired by yoga’s meaning, “union,” to connect, to integrate, to bring together, the Embodied retreat will dive deeply into an inquiry and practice of healing wounds, releasing old patterns and biases, awakening to truth, and embodying love.

Participants will use the ancient technology of yoga to harness one of the most powerful resources we have, self-love, and cultivate our super powers: the capacity to think, speak, and act from a healed, awakened and loving place in the world.

Awakening Workshops

The Awakening Workshops will take place in the morning and introduce readings and discussion on love and connect these ideas to an embodied exploration of love through a theme-oriented, mindful, and breath-centered vinyasa flow. Awakening Workshops will draw on meditation, mindfulness practices, ritual, journaling, reflection, and our collective experiences to dive deeply into this love inquiry.

Integration Workshops

The Integration Workshops will take place in the evening and deepen participants’ understanding of themes presented in the Awakening Workshops by exploring practical ways to take ideas of love out of our minds and into our relationships and the world. Integration Workshops will include a vinyasa flow or restorative yoga practice, readings, meditation, mindfulness practices, ritual, journaling and reflection.

Amansala Eco-Chic Resort

Amansala is a Sanskrit word describing the peaceful, crystal clear waters of Tulum, and this resort puts equal emphasis on indulgence as it does on rejuvenation. Using natural materials and resources to create simple yet exquisite rooms, a menu full of fresh delicious food, we believe that this tranquil environment will support your journey toward a loving destination within your own self, such that embodying love in the world might truly be possible.
